Pressing Spring: Simple Flower Pressing Ideas
Spring’s here – let’s make the most of it.
There’s something really lovely about keeping a little bit of spring long after the petals have dropped. Pressing flowers is an easy and satisfying way to do just that—and you don’t need anything fancy to get started. Just a few blooms, something heavy (like books), and a bit of patience.
In this post, we’ll share which flowers to look out for in the UK this time of year, some ideas for what to do with your pressed blooms, and an invite to our July workshop where we’ll show you how to turn them into something beautiful.
Great Spring Flowers to Press (UK Edition)
You don’t need a big garden—just a walk around your local park, hedgerow, or even your own windowsill can offer up a few treasures. Look for:
Daisies – Small, simple, and dry flat easily
Forget-me-nots – Tiny and delicate, great for cards and small crafts
Buttercups – Soft colours and nice flat petals
Cowslips – Lovely little bell-shaped flowers that flatten well
Bluebells – Trickier but worth a try if you’re gentle
Violas – Eye-catching, and dry beautifully
Ferns and small leaves – Add texture and green contrast
Try picking flowers on a dry day, and press them the same day if you can. The fresher they are, the better they’ll keep their colour.
What to Do with Your Pressed Flowers
Once your flowers are fully dry (usually after a few weeks), there’s loads you can do with them:
Cards – Stick them onto blank cards for birthdays, weddings, or thank-yous
Bookmarks – Use a bit of card, add some pretty flowers and laminate it
Framed art – Arrange a few flowers in a pattern and pop it in a frame
Gift tags – Add a flower to a tag for a handmade feel
Notebooks or journals – Decorate your covers with pressed petals
Join Us in July: Flower Pressing Workshop

Whether you’re totally new to it or just want a bit of inspiration, it’s a fun, hands-on morning with everything provided.

Final Thoughts
Spring doesn’t last forever—but pressed flowers are a lovely way to hang onto it a little longer. So get outside, pick a few blooms, and give pressing a go. And if you want a bit of help or a creative afternoon with like-minded people, we’d love to see you at our workshop in July.
